Two days later the Captain’s table was set for four. Cousin and Kor joined Gabb to talk strategy with Kraken. The food was long gone, and they still talked about what may come.
“Laver’s Gull is a good place to stir the waters. It’s also a good place to get a knife between your ribs,” Kor said.
“That’s any pirate port,” Gabb said. “The real question is how much of Cousin’s changes should we let them see?”
“We need to consider that. We also need to decide if we let on that we know about Blake and Reaper being with the Al’Ri. Or even that we know about being followed,” Kraken said.
Cousin shook her head. “The Al’Ri Hunter will believe that we do know since she lost our trail. That doesn’t mean she is communicating with anyone. As for me? I’m not sure hiding my memory return will help. The Al’Ri won’t care.”
“Not your memory return, Love,” Kraken said, “the way you use your power. You’re stronger. It may be beneficial to hide that.”
The table went silent. Kor stared open mouthed at Kraken. Gabb chuckled to himself. Cousin’s face was blank. She waited to see if Kraken would realize what he said.
Kraken looked around the table. “We have bigger issues,” he said. “Button it up, Kor. Gabb focus. The safety of this ship is on the table.”
Kor’s teeth clicked and he rubbed his jaw. “Begging the Captain’s pardon, but -“
”No buts,” Kraken said.
“Aye, Captain,” Gabb said between chuckles.
“Now see here,” Kor said. “This is our Cousin. No matter her speech, or power. Or her fancy new bracelets. I’m just saying -“
Kraken’s hand slammed the table.
“Love you, too,” Cousin said into the silence.
Kor nodded. “That’s all I care about,” he said crossing his arms.
